BSP ‘Piso Caravan’ goes to Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will kick off the Iloilo - leg of the “BSP Piso Caravan” on June 2-3, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the SM City Iloilo.

The two-day caravan covers exchanging mutilated or unfit coins and banknotes for brand-new BSP banknotes or digital cash.

This will also include learning sessions on BSP Clean Note Policy and Coin Recirculation Program, 1000-Piso Polymer Banknote, Digital Payments and Cyber Hygiene Practices.

Likewise, the public will also be given the opportunity to conveniently open digital wallets, online bank accounts and basic deposit accounts with participating financial service providers (FSP) such as Gcash, PalawanPay and BPI BanKo.

Participants only need to bring their mutilated banknotes or coins sorted out

by denomination for exchange and their valid IDs for account opening.

Mutilated banknotes that may be exchanged are those that comply with the 3S criteria: (1) at least 60% surface area; (2) a portion of the facsimile signature(s) is still present; and (3) the security thread is still present and not willfully removed.

The activity aims to build up the BSP Clean Note and Coin Policy and the Coin Recirculation Program to preserve the country’s currency integrity, promote financial inclusion, and promote digitalization advocacy. (AAL/ED/PIA 6)
