Marawi mayor eyes 30% discount for building permit applicants in MAA

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Mayor Majul Gandamra is planning to give assessment discounts to residents of the most affected areas (MAA) here who will apply for a building permit.

He said he would request from the City Council that residents of the most affected area applying for a building permit be given a 30% discount on the total assessment.

Gandamra said this is to encourage more residents to apply for building permits so that they can start rebuilding their destroyed homes.

The mayor disclosed this during the recent turnover of three school buildings in Barangay Moncado Kadingilan, stressing that the return of residents is crucial for the completed school buildings to be operational.

"Kami sa LGU Marawi ay sumusuporta na itong mga infrastructure ay mapakinabangan na ng ating mga estudyante at ng ating mga guro. Subalit mayroong mga challenges dahil hanggang ngayon konti pa lang ang bumabalik dito na ating mga residents dito sa ground zero," he said.

(We, in LGU Marawi, are supporting the use of these infrastructures by our students and our teachers. But there are challenges because, until now, only a few of our residents have returned here to ground zero)

Only 3,116 residents have so far applied for building permits, according to the report the Office of Building Office submitted to the Task Force Bangon Marawi.
The application for a building permit is part of the Kathagombalay process, which aims to allow residents of MAA to reconstruct or repair their damaged structures. This also allows the government to fix boundaries and records, among others. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
