Deped XI holds 1st reg'l legal aid caravan in Davao de Oro

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - - To capacitate division officials and schools heads on education-related laws, the Department of Education (DepEd) XI held the 1st Regional Legal Assistance Caravan in Davao de Oro, May 25.

More than 300 school heads, unit heads, and education program supervisors of the DepEd - Division of Davao de Oro participated in, both in-person and online, in the hybrid caravan.

DepEd Regional Director Allan Farnazo stressed that among the objectives of the program is to unclog the regional and division offices of improper complaints.

“I hope we can declog all the complaints that are misplaced, not proper and the content is not in accordance with our prescribed rules,” Farnazo said.

The topics discussed in the caravan include the Department Orders No 35 and 49, which deal with the DepEd grievance machinery, and rules and procedures in administrative cases, respectively.

Legal officers also discussed Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business Act and the 8888 Citizen’s Complaint Center.

The participants also learned on the laws on child protection like Republic Act 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Act, and Republic Act 11930 or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.

Discussion on securing valid sites ownership and possession of school under Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS) Order 57, series of 1995, was also given the spotlight.

Deped Davao de Oro new schools division superintendent Cristy Epe stressed the need for the school heads to know more on how to address school site ownership.

“We lose property because we were not properly trained nor were able to represent our schools well; because (also), there hasn’t been any legal consultant item in the Department of Education,” Epe said.

The caravan also talked about complaints outside the jurisdiction of DepEd, rules governing part time teaching/job, and Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public officials and employees. (PIA Davao de Oro/MLU)
