VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – A total of 27 barangay leaders here attended the forum dubbed "Empowering Leaders in Vigan City: A Forum on ECC Programs and Benefits" organized by the Philippine Information Agency Ilocos Sur Information Center, in partnership with the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) and the city government of Vigan, at the Vigan Conservation Complex on Tuesday.
Punong Barangay Lazaro Ancheta of Barangay IX Cuta said, "Dakami a 39 barangays ket agyamankami detoy a symposium ta na-enlighten kami no ania ti ECC program iti gobierno ket agyaman kami a naadalan kami ket mai-applymi kadagiti barangaymi (We, the barangay officials here in Vigan City, are very grateful for this symposium as we were enlightened on what the ECC is – its programs and services. We are thankful because this will be beneficial for us especially to our constituents).”
Information Officer Dexter Dupagan of ECC-Regional Extension Unit 1 discussed the Employees’ Compensation Program or ECP, which is a government program designed to provide employees and their families with income benefits, medical, and other benefits in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death.
“Itong forum na isinagawa natin sa tulong ng PIA ay avenue upang magkaroon tayo ng pagkakataong maibahagi sa ating mga Punong Barangay, na ating target ngayong taon maliban pa sa mga business owners, business establishments, private at government agencies, at i-cascade ang mga programa ng ECC sa barangay level,” Dupagan said in an interview.
“First step palang ito, kasi gusto natin na sila mismo mag-conduct ng ganitong forum sa kanilang barangay o sabi ko nga kanina, they can always invite me to talk or mag-conduct ng orientation. Unang hakbang palang ito para maiparating natin sa mga grassroots level ang mga programa ng ECC,” he added.
This was the second leg for a barangay forum conducted by the ECC-Regional Extension Unit 1 with the first on April 20 held in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. (JCR/MJTAB/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur and Jessa Reynon, Intern from ISPSC)
