Multisectoral nutrition project to boost health, well-being launched

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- The Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) was officially launched in Malalag, May 29, marking a significant milestone for the community's health and well-being.

This collaborative initiative brings together the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XI, Department of Health (DOH) XI, National Nutrition Commission (NNC), and the Municipal Government of Malalag.

The PMNP aims to enhance the nutritional status of children under five years old and pregnant and lactating women through a comprehensive approach encompassing health and nutrition services, food security, livelihood, water, sanitation, hygiene, and behavior change communication.

As part of the project, the DSWD will allocate over P9 million for infrastructure projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program, with focus on early childhood care and development facilities.

Malalag is set to receive over P10.7 million of infrastructure, including comfort

rooms and water systems, with the local government unit (LGU) contributing an additional P1.4 million.

The four-year PMNP, led by the DSWD and DOH, also seeks to promote a multisectoral nutrition approach that integrates nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions, social behavior change, and communication strategies across various local government units (LGUs).

Present during the event were KALAHI-CIDSS XI Regional Program Coordinator Lani E. Cudino, who represented DSWD Field Office XI Regional Director lawyer Vanessa B. Goc-ong, DOH XI and NNC representatives, Malalag mayor Peter Paul Valentin, Vice Mayor Ervin Emphasis, and former Davao del Sur Governor Marc Douglas Cagas IV.

With this significant collaboration, the people of Malalag are optimistic to have a brighter future marked by improved health, nutrition, and overall well-being. (Arquilian Agustin/OJT/PIA XI/Photos by DSWD XI)
