Capiz bares MR-bOPV accomplishments

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The Capiz Provincial Health Office (CPHO) disclosed that the province has administered a total of 46,811 vaccines for Measles Rubella (MR) and 15,344 for bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV) last May in line with the conduct of Supplemental Immunization Activity (SIA) of the Department of Health (DOH).

The SIA for MR is intended for 9 months to 59 months old while the bivalent OPV was for ages 0 to 59 months.

The vaccination roll out dubbed as “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign of the DOH was made to prevent the outbreak of measles and maintain the country's polio-free status.

Out of 46,811 that were given MR shots, Roxas City recorded the highest number of vaccinated children with 11,473.

For polio, Tapaz town got the highest number with 3,576 vaccinated out of the 15,344 children given the antigen.

CPHO National Immunization Program (NIP) manager Julius Vicson De la Cruz

said that the DOH has prioritized five LGUs in the province for bOPV to have a full-swing vaccination.

Included in the list are the towns of Cuartero with 1,628 children vaccinated; Mambusao with 2,197; 3,109 for Panay; Pontevedra with 3,443; and 3,576 for Tapaz.

The activity is expected to cater more children as the DOH has extended SIA until June 15 this year.

A simultaneous provincial kick-off ceremony of the MR-bOPV SIA was conducted in Roxas City as well as Pontevedra and Tapaz towns last month, joined by other medical associates in the province who gave free medical and dental check-ups, vitamins, and medicines during the event. (AGP/PLF/ PIA Capiz)
