LMP VP boosts distressed OFWs' morale during visit to PH Embassy in UAE

NUNUNGAN, Lanao del Norte (PIA)--In a heartwarming display of solidarity, Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay, the Vice President for External Affairs of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), visited the Philippine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) based in Abu Dhabi to uplift the spirits of distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who sought refuge at the Philippine Embassy.

During his visit, Mamay had the privilege of meeting with Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, who expressed gratitude for the mayor's gesture of support. Mamay also engaged in discussions with the OFWs, offering words of encouragement and providing both in-kind items and much-needed financial assistance.

The reasons behind the OFWs' situations vary, ranging from dissatisfaction with their employers to instances of mistreatment, breach of signed contracts, and discrepancies between the promised positions and the actual positions upon arrival.

"As part of my advocacy as the national vice president for LMP, we have to do our obligation. This is to boost the morale of OFW and uplift their spirits to help them in one way or another," Mamay said.

In addition to his visit to the embassy, Mamay's experiences as a religious missionary were featured in a shoot for the biopic film titled "Mamay: The Great Man of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte" in Dubai. The film, starring Jeric Raval, aims to inspire people that poverty is not a hindrance to success and is set to be premiered before the year ends.

Furthermore, Mamay invited the public to witness the official declaration of Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park as an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Heritage Park on June 28 of this year.

Being the 10th recognized ASEAN Heritage Park in the country, this declaration brings pride not only to Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, but to the entire Philippines. Mamay also expressed his gratitude to the national government, provincial government, and former Congressman Abdullah Dimaporo, whose efforts contributed to the approval of the application to become an ASEAN Heritage Site.
