QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Quezon City government received a P310,000 worth of donation from the Rotary International District 3780 intended for the implementation of key educational programs in the city.

The local government announced on Wednesday, May 31, that the cash donation will be specifically allocated to the Learning Recovery Fund projects for in-city public schools which seeks to address the phenomenon of learning poverty among young student learners through the provision of targeted remediation activities.

The said donation will be initially invested in QC Gabay Aral, a high-dosage tutoring program that focuses on the foundational reading and numeracy skills of students. The learners in need from Bago Bantay Elementary School are set to avail of this program.

District Governor Florian Enriquez personally awarded the cash aid to City Mayor Joy Belmonte, signifying their shared commitment to invest in education as the gateway to community-building.

“We cannot imagine the best if our children are not at their best. We cannot be the best if our kids are not the best,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“We are truly grateful for the commitment and support of Rotary International D3780. Through the help of the private sector, we will be able to harness the education and learning opportunities in our city for the benefit of our young learners,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Last May 9, 2023, the local chief executive called for the engagement of various stakeholders including educators, parents, policymakers, and private organizations in the city’s thrust to strengthen the learning competencies of students to prepare them for their future career trajectories.

This came along with the enactment of City Ordinance SP-3182 creating a dedicated education trust fund for the learning recovery programs and educational initiatives of the city. (PIA-NCR)
