Taguig opens public market, sport facility in one building

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- Taguig City Government inaugurated on Saturday (June 3, 2023) a 3-storey multi-purpose building that houses a public market and sport facility in Barangay Sta. Ana.

The market has dry and wet market sections separated into 2 floors, making way-finding easier and ensuring better sanitation.

On the first floor, the Wet Market features stalls where the public can shop for fish, meat, vegetables, coconut, fruit charcoal, and hulled rice, among other items.

The market includes a delivery area and a security outpost on first floor.

On the second floor is the dry section, which consists of stalls that house sari-sari stores, mini groceries, shops for ready-to-wear clothing, and plasticware, services for printing and customizable accessories, canteens, chicken rotisseries, and dessert stores.

Each stall is manned by a Market Management Office-registered vendor equipped with aprons and disinfectants issued by the city government and weighing scales calibrated by the Treasury Office. All stalls have individual water and electricity submeters.

The Sta. Ana Public Market is open daily from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the vendors for their valuable support in the city's project to become a transformative, lively, and caring city.

"Hihingin natin na hindi lang pagpalain ng Panginoon ang gusaling ito, kung 'di pagpalain din ang lahat ng mga nagnenegosyo dito. Sana po mas lalong lumaki ang kita po ninyo at mas maging maginhawa ang pamimili ng ating mga kababayan sa isang mas moderno at malinis na pamilihan," she said.

The building also houses a sports facility cum evacuation center located on the building’s  third floor.

It is a multi-purpose court for community sports such as basketball and volleyball, as well as spaces for exercises like Zumba and yoga. The covered court can function as an evacuation center when needed.

Assigned at the facility is a sports development officer to manage the venue, and a recreation manager  in charge of scheduling games and enforcing rules over the use of the venue, including strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines for general cleanliness and proper upkeep.

Aside from the inauguration and blessing of the facility, officers of the New Sta. Ana Public Market Vendors Association also took their oath.

The multi-purpose building was funded by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano during his tenure as House Speaker through the Department of Public Works and Highways. (taguig pio/pia-ncr)
