DICT-XI launches first barangay-based Tech4ED center in Brgy. Mandug

DAVAO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in the region successfully launched, June 6, its first barangay-based Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (Tech4ED) center in Barangay Mandug, Davao City.

The Tech4ED center in Mandug has three units of ICT equipment to provide services such as NBI Clearance, passport appointment, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID registration/renewal, and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) certificates requests.

DICT-XI Regional Director Evamay C. Dela Rosa said the newly-established Tech4Ed center will benefit the barangay residents, particularly the senior citizens, and will open numerous opportunities.

"With this Tech4Ed center accessible in their neighborhood, senior citizens and residents no longer need to travel to the downtown area for online government appointments,” Dela Rosa said.

On its part, the barangay government of Mandug has also pledged to provide additional ICT equipment units next year to provide accessibility more residents in barangay.

Dela Rosa said the Tech4Ed center marked a significant milestone in DICT’s continuous efforts of enhancing accessibility through digital platforms of government services, especially in far-flung areas.

DICT’s Tech4Ed project aims at providing Filipinos with basic and intermediate digital skills training and services including Basic and Advance Digital Literacy Training, Google Productivity Tools, Email Etiquette, and Data Privacy Protection. (FNBD/PIA Davao Region/DICT-XI)
