DPWH completes flood control structure in Hermosa

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a flood control structure in Hermosa, Bataan.

The new river wall in barangay Bacong will be the first line of defense for residents and local farmers from the detrimental effects of potential overflowing of Colo River brought upon by heavy rainfall.

DPWH Regional Director Roseller Tolentino said Bataan 1st District Engineering Office oversaw the construction of a 208.67-meter long and 7.6-meter high protective structure built on a foundation of structural z-type steel sheet piles.

“With the completion of the flood control structure, lives and properties are protected, damage to farmlands is minimized, and farmers will continue to have income sources,” Tolentino added.

The river wall, which cost P29.4 million to build, started construction in February 2023. It was finished ahead of the target date of July 2023, right in time with the official start of the rainy season. (CLJD-PIA 3)
