DENR-CAR leads clean-up, tree planting events in Benguet

BAGUIO CITY  (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Cordillera spearheaded a clean-up drive along the Balili River in La Trinidad, and a tree planting in Itogon, Benguet  on June 5
 
DENR-CAR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo, Mines and Geosciences Bureau -CAR Regional Director Faye Apil and Grace Solano of the Environment and Management Bureau-CAR led an orientation of the activities at the DENR-CAR compound at  4:00AM to the participants  composed of personnel from the different line agencies and law enforcement agencies, local government units, academe, private sector and other volunteers.
 
Pablo said that the clean-up and tree planting activities are part of the nationwide simultaneous activity in celebration of the World Environment Day and the Philippine Environment Month with  the theme,  “No to Waste: Advancing Circular Economy to Beat Plastic Pollution.”
 
He expressed gratitude to various sectors for their support to the DENR-CAR- led activities stressing that their presence will make a difference  for the environment of the region.
 
Pablo then led the clean-up activity along the stretch of the Balili River in La Trinidad while Apil led the tree planting in Itogon.
 
More than 300 individuals from the different sectors in Baguio City and Benguet supported the Balili River clean-up drive .

More than 2,300 kilograms of wastes were gathered during the clean-up activity. 

Meanwhile, at least 150 participants trekked to the Fianza Fraction Lot 1 in Antamok, Loacan in Itogon  to plant 1,000 pine tree seedlings.
 
Aside from Apil, DENR-CAR OIC Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Atty. Marcos Bias, Benguet Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Edgardo Flor and Baguio Community ENRO  Leandro de Jesus  joined  employees of the DENR-CAR and its attached bureaus  and volunteers from the Benguet Corporation and  other stakeholders from the other  mine companies in Itogon  participated in the  in the tree planting.

Barangay officials of Loacan, the mining host community,  prepared  a 5-hectare land for the tree planting activity.(JDP/RMC- PIA-CAR)
