LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) joined in the nationwide commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the Philippine Independence.
A flag-raising ceremony was held at the Provincial Capitol grounds and was joined by officials and personnel from local government units, national government agencies, and uniformed personnel.
Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Director PCol. Julius Suriben led the wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal.
In his speech, he enjoined all Ilokanos to commemorate and honor the bravery of Filipino heroes who played a historic and significant role in the country’s independence.
“On this historic day, we look back and we remember the freedom fighters who have made our daily lives possible,” said Manotoc.
He also lauded the attendance of local leaders, government officials, and military force in the Independence Day commemoration despite the declaration of national holiday.
“We recall, commemorate, and honor those freedom fighters from our beloved province of Ilocos Norte. After all, we have the blood of freedom fighters running through our veins because we know the crucial role that Ilokanos play in our fight for freedom and independence,” said Manotoc.
After the ceremony, a jobs fair spearheaded by the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) of PGIN was held at the Robinsons Place Ilocos. About 102 individuals were hired-on-the-spot during the jobs fair. (JCR/MJTAB PIA Ilocos Norte)
