DAVAO CITY (PIA) - - The celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day in the region on Monday, June 12, was highlighted by the “Kalayaan Job Fair 2023” led by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE XI) at SM City Davao Annex.
As of 6 P.M. of June 12, DOLE-XI has recorded a total of 902 applicants, with 111 hired-on-the-spot (HOTS). There were around 5,000 local and international job vacancies.
The top three leading local job industries with a high number of job vacancies are delivery drivers/riders -505, sales representatives-155, and customer service representatives -150.
“Lihok tao kay tabangan tika,” DOLE-XI Regional Director lawyer Randolph C. Pensoy emphasized in his message during the opening program of the job fair carrying the theme "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”
Pensoy urged job seekers “to continuously strive for yourself” to achieve their goal in securing employment.
Mariel Francis Kate Dee, a fresh graduate from Holy Cross of Davao College, is one lucky applicants who has been hired-on-the-spot by SM Supermarket.
“It is a good opportunity for fresh graduates as well as for other job seekers because the location is accessible," Dee has commented on the holding of the job fair.
Meanwhile, the different local government units have also marked the celebration with the wreath-laying ceremonies and other activities in their respective areas.
In Davao City, Vice Mayor Melchor Jay Quitain Jr. has led the officials in the ceremonies held at the City’s Quezon and Rizal parks, with Police B. Gen Alden Delvo, Police Regional Office-11 chief, as the guest of honor.
Mayor Josef Fortich-Cagas of Digos City in Davao del Sur led the wreath-laying to the statue of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, while Mayor Joel Calma of Kiblawan led local government officials in the flag raising ceremony.
In Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental, Mayor Claude Benjamin II "Dinko" D. Bautista led other local officials, LGU department heads and personnel, and other government offices, in the offering of flowers to pay tribute to the celebration.
Mayor Manuel "Way Kurat” Zamora of Monkayo, Davao de Oro, together with the members of the Sangguniang Bayan and LGU employees, also joined in the observance of the Independence Day.
Mati City Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat of Davao Oriental has recognized the contribution of each and every Filipino from the past and present who are “working hard to sustain the freedom our forefathers paid dearly with their lives.”
Mayor Michelle belongs to the Nakpil clan with a long lineage of heroes. Her great grandmother was Gregoria de Jesus, once married to Andres Bonifacio and later married Julio Nakpil.
Mayor Leah Moral-Romano has expressed hopes for continued development, economic opportunities, and unity among the residents of the Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali in Davao del Norte, as she joined the whole Filipino nation in marking the 125th Philippine Independence Day.
“Sana ay magkaroon tayo ng sapat na lakas upang ating magampanan ang mga tungkulin at pananagutan sa ating pamilya, sa trabaho, sa kapwa, at sa ating bayan,” Panabo City Mayor Jose Relampagos in Davao del Norte shared a message during the celebration in the city.
