Mountain Province commemorates Independence Day

He also enjoined the public  to honor those who made great sacrifices for the province and  to all members of the society who have been instrumental in battling  criminality and other concerns  affecting the  peace and order situation of the province.

 “Let us also honor our kakailyans for their gallantry in fighting for the freedom of our province from the foreign invaders. It is fitting to honor them in recognition  of  their extraordinary acts, sacrifices and heroism, ” he said.

“Let us also honor our modern-day heroes, our young leaders, faith-based volunteers, fathers and pastors, and our partners in peace and order who have been instrumental in our fight against any form of criminality including insurgency and illegal drugs in our province. It is worth stressing that they are the reason behind our freedom from the communist terrorist groups and illegal drugs,” he  stressed.

BONTOC, Mountain Province(PIA)-- Provincial officials led by Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr.  spearheaded the province’s observance of the 125th Philippine Independence Day at the  Provincial Plaza  here on Monday(June 12).

Police Regional Office-Cordillera Regional Director PBGEN David K. Peredo, Jr. joined  his provincemates  in  this  occasion as the guest of honor and speaker.  

Peredo, from the scenic town of Sagada,  emphasized the key factors that inspired the freedom of the people. 

“In the quest for national freedom and dignity, our ancestors were guided by the qualities which are nationalism, bravery and sacrifice” Peredo said.

Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog Jr. also rallied the  people to unite as one to have a meaningful existence in building a glorious Philippines and Mountain Province.

“On this day, let us forget our differences and unite as one true nation should be. Our beloved country and province have given us everything we have in life. We should pledge to give everything we can for the sake of safety, security, progress and prosperity of our country and province, ” Dalog said. 

This year’s Independence Day celebration bears the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan”.

The  commemoration started with a eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Samuel Maximo of the Sta Rita de Cascia Cathedral Parish in Bontoc.

It ended with  Vice Governor Tauli  singing a song highlighting  the heroism of Filipinos  that led to the  freedom of the country which  is being  enjoyed  now. (JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
