ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - As the country celebrates its 125th anniversary of Independence Day and Nationhood on June 12, Ilonggos were urged to remain committed to protect freedom and shape better future.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas called on Ilonggos to remember the sacrifices of ancestors, focus on their hopes for the future and learn from history.
“Together let us stay determined, united and committed to protecting our freedom, shaping better future and honoring those who came before us,” said Treñas in his message for this year’s Independence Day celebration carrying the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” (Freedom, Future, History).
The celebration, according to the local chief executive, also serves as a call to action for all to take responsibility in shaping the nation or shaping the city.
“Together let us work tirelessly to eradicate poverty, promote equality and provide opportunities for every Filipino,” said Treñas during the program which was held in front of the Iloilo City Hall located at Plaza Libertad.
