On Independence Day, local exec dares Masbateños

MASBATE CITY, Masbate (PIA) — City Mayor Socrates Tuason, on Independence Day, called on Masbateños to pursue the vision and mission of men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to liberate the Philippines from foreign domination.

Tuason (third from right) addresses attendees of the flag-raising ceremony in front of the historic municipal building in Masbate City, Monday, June 12.

From the Spanish colonization to Japanese invasion of the Philippines, “so many heroes had sacrificed their lives for us Filipinos.  Let us not forget them, their vision and mission for the good of our country,” Tuason said in a speech at the ceremony commemorating the 125 years of Philippine independence at Masbate City Hall grounds last Monday.

Continuing to strive to solve the problems that currently beset the city in particular, and the nation in general, could be the best way for Masbateños to pay tribute to the country’s fallen heroes, he said.

Singling out those in civil service, Tuason said government workers could demonstrate patriotism by using their power to benefit the people, meeting the public service standards, and imploring the divine providence.  (PIA5/Masbate)
