Ifugaos celebrate 57th Founding Anniversary, 'Gotad ad Ifugao'

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - - Hundreds of  people from the 11 municipalities  and employees from various agencies converged in this capital town for the celebration of the week-long 57th Founding Anniversary of the province  and  2023 “Gotad ad Ifugao” from June 13-17.

A  parade around Poblacion Lagawe  participated by Ifugaos garbed  in  their colorful native attires and cultural- inspired office uniforms  kicked off the  annual festival.

This year’s theme is “Linggop, Hangle ya Amlong” (Well-being, Progress and Happiness).

In the opening program, Department of  Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchailan through Undersecretary Rowena Niña O. Taduran, stated that the celebration of the “Gotad ad Ifugao” and 57th Founding Anniversary is not just a commemoration of the past but a great manifestation of Ifugao’s unique culture.

It is  a testament to the spirit and resilience of the Ifugao people who have strived for well-being, progress and happiness. It is this unity that empowers  people to overcome adversity, protect  their  shared heritage and collectively  shape our destiny.

“Together, we can build a future where well-being, progress and happiness are not just lofty ideals but tangible for all,” the DSWD official stated.

Congressman Solomon Chungalao called  on Ifugao residents and officials to cooperate and work hand in hand, putting   aside whatever differences for the progress of everyone and the province as a whole.

“Let us and work for the betterment of our province. For us, elected officials, it is time to fulfil our commitment/mandates, let’s and work together for our province. May we, as Ifugaos, never lose sight of ourselves as a community, never lose our love for one another and never tire of seeking progress in our daily lives,” Chungalao said.

Meanwhile, Governor Jerry Dalipog and Vice Governor Glenn Prudenciano lauded the 11 municipalities for supporting  the occasion.

Among the activities for the twin celebrations  include the agro-tourism and industrial fair, civic parade, culinary arts competition, photo exhibit,  public services, performing arts competition, ethnic skills competition, debate challenge, indigenous games competition,  cultural parade and fashion show featuring Ifugao-woven inspired creations.

Gotad ad Ifugao is a big cultural gathering for thanksgiving or merrymaking that is held every June  while June 18 is the foundation day of the province. Ifugao gained its  status as a province with the signing into law of House Bill No. 1526 otherwise known as Republic Act No. 4695 or the Division Law of Mountain Province on June 18, 1966.
