Davao de Oro youth group gives sweets to ‘modern’ heroes

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - - As the nation celebrates the 125th Independence Day offering wreaths to the heroes of the past, a youth group in Davao de Oro showed appreciation to the modern day heroes in the community by giving them chocolates.

On June 12, members of the different municipal chapters of Youth for Peace Movement Davao de Oro (YFPM DDO) flocked the streets in their respective towns greeting living heroes of the current times with their chocolates.

Hundreds of tricycle drivers, government employees, teachers, soldiers, police and fire personnel, street and market vendors, security guards, doctors, nurses, and local officials received the group’s token with a message of love.

According to YFPM DDO president Danellene Sandulan, the project, dubbed as Choco for Heroes, has been going on for around 14 years.

“We want to bring happiness and extend our gratitude to our great heroes of today and to those people who are considered as our heroes; it may be a simple token to them, yet it is a memorable token of our appreciation,” Sandulan said.

She added that they focused on the modern day heroes, who are now working hard for the Philippines to progress and develop.

“Those sweet treats and sincere messages bridge our flaring gratitude to their unceasing service and commitment to our nation,” she said. (mlu/PIA Davao de Oro/Photos from YFPM)
