Balay Silangan opens in Compostela, Davao de Oro

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro (PIA) - - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) XI and the local government unit of Compostela, Davao de Oro opened on June 19 a drug reformation facility in town located at Purok 2, Barangay Poblacion.

According to PDEA XI, the facility, known as the Balay Silangan Reformation Center (BSRC), will cater drug pushers and plea bargainers of drug cases in pursuant to Dangerous Drugs Board Resolution No. 3, series of 2022.

The resolution specifies that the individuals who will be enrolled in the center will undergo a three-month reformation program, which includes one month mandatory in-house phase for education, health, psychosocial, and physical activities; and two months livelihood or employment education phase.

PDEA XI also clarified that the center is not for those who are classified only as persons who used drugs (PWUDS).

The opening ceremony for the center was graced PDEA XI Regional Director Naravy Duquiatan, Compostela Mayor Levi Ebdao, and John Carlo Aculado, representing Representative Maricar Zamora.

During the ceremony, the officials signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) together with other stakeholders like the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Department of Health, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, and Compostela Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship.

Among the agreements were the provision of manpower by the local government unit, technical support from the PDEA, and logistical support from the congressional office.

To date, the center in Compostela is the fourth BRSC in Davao de Oro.
