DOLE helps NV’s child laborers, parents

SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - -  The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with the local government unit here and civil society organizations has provided assistance to 31 child laborers and their parents as part of their campiagn to end child labor in this town.

DOLE Provincial Director Elizabeth Martinez said part of their partnership intervention was the conduct of orientations for the beneficiaries regarding child labor laws and programs to help them instead.

She said through the DOLE’s Project Angel Tree Program in partnership with the local government unit and civil society organizations, they were able to provide  games for the children, free massage for the parents and the giving of gifts such as rice, groceries, health kits, vitamins, hygiene kits, and clothes.

“We are grateful for the support of our local government unit and our civil society partners for making this activity a reality,” Martinez said.

Vice Mayor Eddie Tiongson thanked the DOLE and their partners for bringing the needed services to their constituents.

“We welcome our collaboration to help our distressed villagers especially our children who need proper care and guidance for their general wellbeing,” he said.

The anti-child labor activity was supported by  the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, Mt. Palali Eagles Club - Solano Chapter, Rotary Club of Bayombong Capital, Drugstore Association of the Philippines, N.V., Nueva Vizcaya Sunrise Trading, Inc., Jr. Modhouse variety shop, Rodan Enterprise and LGU Solano.
