CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) - - The University of the Philippines (UP) Pahinungod, Kasuso Foundation Inc. headed by its chairperson, Ma. Lourdes Cortes, the provincial government and the Department of Education-Schools Division Office (DepEd-SDO) here recently conducted a Preparatory Meeting for a Community Based Breast Advocacy Partnership between the Foundation and Stakeholders in the province. 

In the consultative meeting, the DepEd-SDO headed by Schools Division Superintendent Madelyn Macalling committed to be part of the said endeavor through the conduct of information and dissemination of preventive strategies for women who are vulnerable and at risk from breast cancer.

Vice-Governor Jojo Vaquilar, Provincial Administrator Carmen Jimenez, Provincial Health Officer Mila Villar and PEEO Head Elmor Villaruel represented the PLGU during the meeting.

Also present were representatives from Municipal Government Units, Quirino Province Medical Center, Municipal Health Offices, DepEd, Department of Health and Women NGOs.

During the meeting, the partner agencies pledged to support community activities focusing on health education, cancer prevention, early detection, establishment of a cancer database and a support system that will help cancer patients during their treatment.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Saguday also partnered with the UP-Pahinungod and UP-PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality.

The activity aims to look at the needs of the PWDs in the municipality and draw plans, programs, and activities to achieve sustainable and inclusive development in the community.

Municipal Mayor Jerry M. Pagbilao and various stakeholders from the Offices of the Sangguniang Bayan, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Barangay Health Workers and the Federation President of PWDs shall take the the lead in identifying the needs and possible interventions for the PWDs in the said town. 

The activity was facilitated by UP-Pahinungod University Extension Specialist, Dr. Lunalinda Luz, together with Dr. Frances Ann B. Carlos and Dr. Nancy Cheng, both of UP-PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. (OTB/TCB/PIA Quirino)
