BALANGA CITY (PIA) -- About 250 volunteers from government agencies and non-governmental organizations planted over 5,000 narra seedlings at barangay Mabayo in Morong, Bataan.
This is in line with the observance of Philippine Arbor Day pursuant to Proclamation No. 643, series of 2004.
Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office Officer-In-Charge Rafael De Leon said the annual event provides an opportunity for individuals from various fields of society to come together and collaborate on projects that focus on the environment.
For his part, Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III urged all Bataeños to participate in Arbor Day, not only for the benefit of the present generation but also for the welfare of future generations.
"It is important that we persist in safeguarding the environment, trees, and watersheds to generate resources for the benefit of the people,” Garcia said.
The activity was sponsored by GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd Co., in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the municipal government. (CLJD/RPQ-PIA 3)
