Antique PYDO bags national recognition

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) -- The Antique Provincial Youth Development Office  (PYDO) was awarded as one of the Most Outstanding Youth Development Offices in the country during the recent Philippine Sangguniang Kabataang Awards held in Iloilo City.

PYDO Officer-in-Charge Irish Manlapaz, in a program at the EBJ Freedom Park today, June 26, lauded the initiatives of Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao for allocating funds for the scholarship program of economically disadvantaged families so they could pursue their studies in college and post-graduate course.

Aside from Antique PYDO, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Apdo, Hamtic town is also one of the top 10 performing SK organizations in the country.

Manlapaz in her speech during the program underscored the valuable programs of the PYDO providing educational assistance to the youth and the PYDO on wheels where the application and release of grants are being brought nearer to the location of the beneficiaries.

For this school year, Antique has allocated a total of P97.7 million for the scholarship grant to more than 19,600 students in the province.

Of the total amount, more than P3.5 million was allocated for the post-graduate studies of 586 students.

Manlapaz also shared stories of the SK Chair Alex Sedantes of Barangay Apdo who has been both challenged and inspired by the youth programs of the Province of Antique, thus propelling him as well to initiate worthwhile activities for the youth in his locality.

For his part, Vice Governor Edgar Denosta who is also present during the program, reiterated the commitment of the Office of the Vice Governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to sustain budget allocation and other legislative support to the endeavors of the PYDO. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique)
