DENR, LGU spearhead tree and mangrove planting in Catanduanes

VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA) - Around 300 Narra seedlings were planted Thursday, June 22,at the Virac Breeding Station  at Simamla, Virac, Catanduanes during the tree planting activity spearheaded by the provincial government of Catanduanes.

The event was conducted in collaboration with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Office of the Vice Governor, as part of the Linggo ng Kalikasan (Environment Week) celebration held from June 19 to 23. The theme of the celebration was "#BeatPlasticPollution: Focus on Solutions to Plastic Pollution."

A total of 1,500 mangrove propagules were planted at Barangay Bon-Ot, San Andres on June 21.

The  Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) headed by Imelda Baltazar led the said activity. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Office of Vice-Governor led by Vice Governor Peter C. Cua, together with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, San Andres MDRRMO and MENRO with members of the Eagle's Club also participated in the said endeavor.

Meanwhile, a river clean-up drive will be conducted at the rivers of Sto. Domingo, Buyo, Hicming, Danicop, Mislagan and Sto. Niño. (PIA5/Catanduanes)
