TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - The Department of Social Welfare and Development - Field Office 2 (DSWD-2) awarded a check amounting to P100,000 each to six centenarian grantees in the region on June 21 and 22, 2023.
Fernando Bainto, DSWD Centenarian Program Focal Person, awarded a felicitation letter from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and a certificate of appreciation from DSWD FO2 Regional Director Lucia Suyu-Alan to each centenarian grantee.
The letter from the President expressed gratitude for the recipients' significant contributions to nation-building.
Maxima Acosta, Fortunato Serquia Sr., Pida Palgue, and Banganay Bumaynin were among the four recipients of centenarian grants from Nueva Vizcaya while the other two recipients, Guadalupe Tarun and Rocio S. Canceran, were from Isabela.
Moreover, the recipients and their families expressed gratitude for the financial aid they received and stated that they will utilize the cash grant for their food, medications, and supplies.
Republic Act 10868 otherwise known as the Centenarians Act of 2016, which was signed on June 23, 2016, entitles all Filipinos who reach 100 years old and above, whether living in the Philippines or abroad, a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a "centenarian gift" worth P100,000.
