DOST Davao Oriental STARBOOKS staff wins regional award

CITY OF MATI, Davao Oriental (PIA) - - The Department of Science and Technology - Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) lauded an employee from its provincial office of Davao Oriental for championing Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS).

During the 36th anniversary celebration of DOST-STII, DOST-Davao Oriental deployment officer Jeric Felix Gagama was awarded as STARBOOKS regional champion for his exemplary performance in deploying and installing the digital library.

He started establishing STARBOOKS to the communities in Davao Oriental, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) since 2012.

Gagama said that he prioritized those in far-flung communities as they are the least to access information and educational materials.

“Ginapriority namo ang mga lagyo kay kabalo kami na limited lang jud kaayo ang access sa mga bata sa educational materials and malipay kami nga nakaserve ta ug sa makalampos pud sila sa ilang kaugmaon (We prioritize far-flung areas because we are aware that their access to various educational materials are very limited and we are happy that we can serve them with something that will help them in their future),” he said..

To date, he installed a total of 114 digital libraries in the province including two solar-powered STARBOOKS.
