TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 2 welcomed new qualifiers for the 2023 DOST- SEI Undergraduate Scholarship program.
Recently, about 9,776 were qualified wherein 276 are from region 2.
Qualifiers will enjoy the full benefits of the scholarship for the whole duration of their programs of study which include a monthly stipend of ₱7,000; tuition fee subsidy of up to ₱40,000 per academic year for those who will enroll in private institutions; ₱10,000 for learning materials and/or connectivity allowance per academic year; one-time MS/PE clothing allowance; one economy-class round trip fare per academic year for those who will study outside their home province; group health and accident insurance; and thesis and graduation allowance.
Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994” provides scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status does not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators.
As DOST 2 announces qualifiers, proud parents and even students themselves take pride in their achievements.
The scholarship program aims to produce more Filipino scientists and engineers to support knowledge creation and economic productivity in the country.
Afer graduation, scholar-graduates of these programs are required to work along their fields of specialization in the country for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship coverage.
For Editha Vasquez, whose daughter is qualified for the scholarship, it is of great help especially that sending one to college is very expensive nowadays.
"I am happy on behalf of my daughter as a beneficiary of the scholarship. Her entitlements are more than enough and most especially for the privilege," she said. (GVB/PIA Region 2)
