Ilocos Norte still generally peaceful – INPPO

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The province of Ilocos Norte is still generally peaceful according to the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office (INPPO) with a “normal” number of crime incidents as of June 2023.

In an interview, PMAJ Jephre Taccad, information officer of INPPO, said that the prevalent crime incidents in the province are road crash incidents, rape cases, and physical injury.

Taccad reported that there have been 106 recorded cases of road crash incidents with 31 fatalities, 42 physical injuries, and 43 cases of damage to properties.

With 26 rape cases this year, the INPPO will be prioritizing its intervention programs to decrease this number.

Moreover, 17 cases of technology-related incidents were reported, and all were resolved, according to Taccad.

As for the province’s fight against illegal drugs, Taccad reported that the INPPO, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), has declared some 18 local government units (LGUs), 52 barangay halls, and six schools as drug-free workplaces.

“Kailangan ang commitment ng mga LGUs sa pag-sustain ng drug-free workplace, at natutuwa kami na out of the 23 cities and municipalities sa province ay lima na lang ang hindi pa declared. We want to encourage the remaining LGUs na sana they can undergo drug-testing. And to those na declared na to sustain a drug-free workplace talaga para hindi mawala ang public trust sa ating mga public servants,” he said.

He also reported that Ilocos Norte is still free from insurgencies.

“Since the declaration last September 2013, cleared pa rin ang Ilocos Norte. We are still sustaining the tranquility of the province with the help of other security agencies and the local government,” Taccad said. (JCR/AMB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
