PBBM lauds DPWH, partner agencies for the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road

DAVAO CITY (PIA) -- President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has commended the efforts of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other partners that led to the completion of the first segment of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road.

During the inauguration ceremony led by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. today, July 1,2023, he said that the continuous work of DPWH and the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other partner agencies helped to realize the project.

“We have to recognize our fellow workers in government, especially those in the Department of Public Works and Highways who have toiled diligently, patiently, and passionately to bring this to fruition,” the President said.

He added “We also have to recognize and thank JICA or the Japan International Cooperation Agency, all the other development partners as well, for they have shared their expertise with the Philippine government to improve our infrastructure.”

President Marcos, Jr. said that the opening of the first segment of the said project will not only help ease traffic problem in the downtown area but also facilitate economic activity within the city.

“This will also help in transporting goods in and out of the city, making access to basic necessities easier for communities, for businesses, and for consumers,” he added.

Despite the slow progress brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, the President is optimistic that the project will serve its purpose “to ease traffic congestion and, in turn, sustain and even boost the economic growth” of Davao City.

He urged DPWH and other concerned agencies to fast-track the completion of the entire project to maximize its benefits and bring convenience to the people of Davao City.

“I call on the DPWH and everyone involved in this and all the other infrastructure projects. The work needs to be done. Strive to finish the remaining segments and let us do it within schedule so that our people may reap and truly enjoy the maximum benefits of your hard work,” he said.

The completed seven-kilometer segment of the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road, which runs from Bago Aplaya to Times Beach, is part of the 18-kilometer total length of the project currently being constructed.

The coastal road features walkways, bicycle lanes, and linear parks. It will also serve as a protection against storm surges and shore erosion. (JBG/ASO/PIA XI)
