President Marcos celebrates first year in Office at DavSur's 56th Founding Anniversary Celebration

DAVAO CITY (PIA) - - President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. celebrates his first year in office with the people of Davao del Sur for the province's 56th founding anniversary program on July 1.

President Marcos is expected to give a message during the anniversary program at the Davao del Sur Sports Coliseum, Governor Douglas RA Cagas Sports and Business Center in Matti, Digos City.

On May 8, 1967, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr, the father of the current president, signed Republic Act 4867 dividing the mother province of Davao into three provinces – Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental. The law was ratified on July 1 of the same year.

In 2013, Davao del Sur was further divided into two provinces, creating the province of Davao Occidental through Republic Act 10360.

Now, Davao del Sur boasts several cultural and natural destinations, including the highest peak in the Philippines-- the Mount Apo.

For its 56th Araw ng Davao del Sur, the celebration is anchored on the theme "Lig-ong Probinsya, Lig-ong Katawhan Alang sa Maanyag nga Kaugmaon ug Malungtarong Kalambuan."

The foundation day celebration kicked off earlier today with a Civic Parade from Rizal Park to LYR Digos, and Motorcade from the LYR to the Coliseum.

The Drum and Lyre Competition, and Symphony Band in Concert will be in the afternoon.

The day will culminate with fireworks display and concert starting at 5:00 P.M. (MU with reports from JSD - PIA Davao)
