DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, June 23 (PIA) – Known as a “university town,” Dumaguete City has been selected to host the upcoming Regional Science and Technology Week celebration for Central Visayas.

Through a continuous effort in stimulating and empowering students via innovative and immersive Science education, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced that the first science bus in the country named “nuLab" is set to visit the city this September.

The nuLab is a state-of-the-art mobile facility equipped with cutting-edge technology and captivating exhibits.
Seeing the city’s potential to serve as a catalyst for research and innovation, DOST aims to foster collaboration, showcase local research, and inspire the next generation of scientists during their stop in the city.

A group of dedicated teams from the Science Education Institute (SEI) of DOST recently visited Dumaguete City to find the perfect venue that can accommodate nuLab and at the same time explored the city’s beautiful landscapes.

DOST Public Information Officer Designate Engr. Reinhold Jek Abing said the team made sure that the chosen venue would reflect Dumaguete’s innovative spirit and facilitate walk-in visitors.

Abing added that a lineup of distinguished scientists, researchers, and educators will be sharing their knowledge to inspire the visitors of nuLab.

NuLab’s project lead, Candy Ilaw, encouraged students to anticipate an exhilarating, enjoyable, and advanced science and technology experience inside the science bus.

They will also have the opportunity to meet young scholar-graduates and seasoned scientists who specialize in various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

DOST Provincial Director Atty. Gilbert Arbon said the arrival of nuLab in the city for the Regional Science and Technology Week Celebration represents the department’s commitment to fostering a culture of scientific curiosity among the city's students.
