CEBU CITY, Cebu, July 6 (PIA) – The National Nutrition Council in Central Visayas (NNC-7) kicked off the 49th Nutrition Month celebration this month by launching a series of activities dubbed “aFOODable” Fair on July 4 at the Plaza Sugbu, this city.
The food fair featured local food exhibitors who displayed various local garden produce such as fruits, vegetables, fresh milk, and other nutritional products.
In a press statement, NNC-7 said they aimed to showcase affordable, accessible, safe, and healthy food from local producers and farmers.
Among the exhibitors who displayed their products to be sold during the food fair were the partners of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 7 under their Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program.

A "Nutri RAeCipE" cooking contest was also conducted where participants demonstrated their abilities in cooking delicious, healthy meals on a budget-friendly price using ingredients bought at the food fair.
The NNC-7 said the contest places a strong emphasis on the idea of accessibility and encourages contenders to develop recipes that give preference to regionally available products and economical cooking techniques.
“This activity is one way to encourage and inform consumers on how to change to a healthy, sustainable diet while also promoting the goods produced by local farmers,” said NNC-7 in a press statement.
Also part of the regional launching diet counseling provided by clinical dietitians from the different hospitals who served as nutrition advisors and health assessment services conducted by the Department of Health such as blood sugar count and cholesterol determinations.
With this year's theme, "HEALTHY DIET gawing affordable FOR ALL," the NNC-7 is strongly advocating for the health and nutrition of all Filipinos as a healthy and sustainable diet can protect a person against non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, and certain types of cancer.
Other nutrition-related activities advocating a healthy diet will be conducted by the NNC-7 throughout the month as part of the nationwide observance of Nutrition Month this year. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu with reports from NNC-7)
