CITY OF TAGUM (PIA)- - The 2023 National Nutrition Month kicked off in the City of Tagum, Davao del Norte highlighting not only the messages of the key officials of the National Nutrition Council (NNC) but also giving attention to the ideas and involvement of the local government.

Bannering the theme “Healthy Diet ‘Gawing’ Affordable For All!,” the event started with a press conference attended by Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy, who pointed out the need to integrate cooking and food preparation among the learning sessions of K to 12 students.

In a separate interview, NNC regional coordinator Dr. Maria Theresa Ungson said NNC had chosen Tagum City as the host site of the 2023 Nutrition Month National Launch because of its “sterling” performance in nutrition.

She said that over the years, Tagum has been a good performer in the nutrition sector as it has garnered the Nutrition Honor Award “which is the highest ever given to an LGU in implementing good practices in nutrition.”

Tagum City also has a  number of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) who have made it to the string of national BNS awardees, she said.

On the other hand,  the 2023 Nutrition Month National Launch also featured messages from member agencies of the National Executive Board of NNC particularly from the Department of Agriculture (DA),  Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of Health (DOH).

Also, multi-sector representatives during the event pledged their commitment and support to promote healthy diet for everyone.

The Association of  Barangay Captains (ABC) Federation President of Tagum also took part during the panel discussion on “Affordable Healthy Diet for Every Filipino” that brought in participation of DA, DOH, DSWD, departments of  Trade, Education, Labor and Employment, Science and Technology, Interior and Local Government, and the National Economic and Development Authority.

Other activities during the national program launch here include the panel discussion on affordable healthy diet for every Filipino, cooking demonstration on affordable recipes, nutrition month exhibitand cultural show. (JMDA/PIA Davao del Norte/With photos from NNC)
