PSA-PhilSys reaches Iloilo’s ‘most’ remote area

ILOILO CITY (PIA6) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), through the Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office, has recently extended its PhilSys (Philippine Identification System) Mobile Registration Activity to the most remote barangay in the province.

Forty-four residents from the remote barangay of Atimonan in Janiuay, Iloilo were successfully enrolled in the National ID system during the first day of registration, according to PSA’s local team, noting that the individuals recognized the value of having an identification card.

A comprehensive house-to-house registration campaign was also conducted on the second day which resulted in the enrollment of 22 other residents, citing that it is part of the commitment of the PSA to bring the benefits of PhilSys to even the most remote and far-flung areas of the country.

“Despite the challenging terrain, [the team] diligently registered an additional 22 individuals, ensuring that no resident was left unregistered. Understanding the unique circumstances faced by the residents of Barangay Atimonan, the provincial office took proactive measures to ease the process,” PSA said in a statement.

PSA also said that pre-laminated IDs were given to the residents as they aim to

streamline the process and to save the locals from the additional burden of travelling for lamination of their cards, knowing how far their community is from the town proper.

Aside from its main goal of bringing the identification service to the locals, the team also held a small feeding program, giving the residents nourishing meals to address the holistic well-being of the community.

“The PhilSys Mobile Registration Activity in Barangay Atimonan serves as a testament to the PSA's dedication to bringing the benefits of the Philippine Identification System closer to all Filipinos,” PSA stressed in a statement.

The Republic Act (RA) No. 11055, otherwise known as the Philippine Identification System Act, which was signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018 aims to establish a single national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens in the country. It is also envisioned to make service more accessible; promote ease of doing business; enhance the integrity of services and reduce frauds; enable participation and trust in digital government and the digital economy; and empower Filipinos with greater control over their personal data.
