MANILA, (PIA) -- The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will implement a P0.7213 per kilowatt hour (kWh) cap on electricity bills this July.

Because of the discount, the overall electricity rate of a typical household will only reach P11.1899/kWh from P11.9112/kWh last month.

According to Meralco, the reduction in charges is caused by the reduction in electricity prices from suppliers or generation charges, as well as the charges of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), power supply agreements (PSAs) and independent power producers (IPPs). and even in transmission and other charges, including taxes and subsidies that also recorded a net reduction.

Such deduction is equivalent to a P144 reduction in the bill of customers who consume 200kwh per month; P216 savings for those who use 300kwh; P288 for 400kwh and P360 for 500kwh per month.

Meralco also called on their customers to apply for lifeline discounts, following the amendment to the rules for their Lifeline Rate program.

Among those qualified to apply here are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) or members of the marginalized sector who obtained certification from the local social welfare and development office. (PIA-NCR)
