BONTOC, Mountain Province(PIA)--The proposed Mountain Province Climate Field School for Farmers is now one step closer to realization as a team from the People’s Survival Fund Board Secretariat (PSFBS) visited the province on July 11, 2023 for the Project Appraisal and Field Validation Mission.
The team composed of personnel from the Development Bank of the Philippines, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Climate Change Commission, and Department of Finance met with Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. and Mountain Province State Polytechnic College(MPSPC) President Edgar Cue to discuss the proposed project.
Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Ian Neil D. Culallad explained that the climate field school primarily aims to increase the yields of the agriculture and fisheries sectors through the farmer’s field school and mitigate the risks of climate change through good agricultural practices and sustainable resource management. The project has focus areas namely agriculture and fisheries, infrastructure development, natural ecosystems, and institutional and capacity development.
The conduct of the field appraisal mission intends to clarify details of the proposed project, readiness and sustainability and other implementation procedures before being recommended to the PSF Board for approval.
The 243 million worth project is proposed at the MPSPC- College of Agriculture in Bacarri, Paracelis, which the team also visited.
As explained by Anna Marie Mercaldi from the DoF, the provincial local government unit has to commit at least ten percent of the total project cost to serve as counterpart.
Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan assured that the PLGU will always be ready to give whatever assistance for the success of the project.
