‘Slow Food Mock Tour’ kicks off in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) 6 kicked off its “Slow Food Mock Tour” in Capiz on July 11 and 12, as part of its preparations for the regional launch of the “Slow Food Travel Program” in Western Visayas on September this year.

The program aims to promote the preservation and responsible consumption of agro-ecological food products that are locally available in the region.

The mock tour in Capiz covered farm tourism sites in Roxas City and municipalities of Cuartero, Dao, and Panay.

DOT 6 director Crisanta Marlene P. Rodriguez led the group of evaluators from Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental, in the assessment of the readiness of various identified slow food destinations in the province.

During the tour, the evaluators were immersed in preparing and cooking Capiznon traditional and native delicacies in the identified tour sites.

DOT VI Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez tries to cook the traditional "Puto nga may Tuba" at the Capiz Ecology Park and Cultural Village during the Slow Food Mock Tour in Capiz.
"Tinubaan nga Manok" is a traditional Capisnon dish made of nipa wine or "tuba," lemon grass, salt, ginger, onion leaves, onion, pepper, and "siling haba."

Aside from the traditional dishes showcased at the Capiz Ecological Park in Cuartero, evaluators were also able to observe the way of life and interact with the Ati Indigenous People of Dumarao town and the Panay Bukidnon tribe in Tapaz town.

A demonstration on the weaving of abaca, “buri,” and bamboo craft making were also showcased at the EcoPark.

The DOT 6 will also conduct the same activity in Iloilo on July 25 to 28, and in Negros Occidental on August 8 to 11. (AGP/PLF/PIA Capiz)
