DTI Ifugao boosts skills of MSMEs, YEP mentees

LAGAWE, Ifugao June (PIA) - - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the province  in  collaboration  with partners  conducted various activities to upskill Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and  the  youth.

 Among the activities  include seminars on raw material sustainability thru convergence initiatives,  Current Good Manufacturing Practices(CGMP),  Youth Entrepreneurship Program(YEP)! You Can Be Your Own Boss Workshop  training.

 The raw material sustainability thru convergence initiatives seminar held in Banaue town was attended by representatives from the business sector, barangay and municipal local government units and police officers.

 Representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resource discussed the forestry related laws  to  wood and bamboo manufacturing; documentary requirements for permits to be secured including their programs and services.

Ifugao is known for the woodcarving skills of its people  who   maintain their woodcarving industry  through their  indigenous forest preservation system  called  "muyong".

The DTI Ifugao thru the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program also  trained officers of three Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations in Asipulo town on the  current goods manufacturing practices to increase product quality.

This seminar aims to bring awareness and enhance the knowledge of the participants on the importance and requirements of CGMP, the updated  version of the Good Manufacturing Practice,  and  to encourage them to enhance their current standard operating procedures.

Another seminar was the YEP! Be Your Own Boss for Ifugao.  A collaboration  between DTI and the Commission on Higher Education-Cordillera with state colleges and universities,  interested young people  who want to  pursue or start their business undergo entrepreneurial trainings

DTI - Ifugao OIC Provincial Director Engr. Francis D. Pacio emphasized the importance of looking forward and preparing for a more inclusive and fulfilling future. He  challenged the mentees to step up to whatever challenge that  they may encounter as they undergo the series of training, keeping in mind their own character and individuality as they leave a mark as young entrepreneurs of the region.
