BFAR turns over P3.8 worth of HDPE cages to Ifugao fisherfolk

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) - -  The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources  (BFAR) is resolute  in its efforts of  sustaining  livelihood  of  fisherfolk around the Magat Dam  for increased production and income.

BFAR-Cordillera  Regional Director Lilibeth L. Signey,  Ifugao Vice Governor Glenn D. Prudenciano, and other BFAR and local officials  led the turn-over of five units of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) circular fish cages worth P3,880,715.00 to the beneficiaries on July 13.

The  recipient organizations namely  Progressive Organization (Halag 1 and 2) and Halag Aqua Fisherfolk Association ( Halag 3 and 4), both in Aguinaldo; United Christian Fisherfolk and Farmers Association and Riverside Rural Improvement Club,   both in  Alfonso Lista,  and the Maguitawa Farmers and Fisherfolk Association  in  Mayoyao  each received  a HDPE  fish cage with a 10-meter diameter and 6-meter depth stocked with 12,000 pieces  tilapia fingerlings.

BFAR-CAR also  provided  400 sacks of feeds  to the beneficiaries.

The assistance provided  are under  the Fish Cage Livelihood Project in line with  Republic Act 11321 known as the Farmers and Fisherfolk Enterprise Development Program or Sagip Saka Act of 2019.

The project adopted the use of HDPE materials to provide a more durable fish cage frame and structure that will last almost a lifetime, and its design is circular in shape to be more resilient to the impacts of wind and waves during the occurrence of undesirable weather disturbances.

The BFAR in 2021 also turned over one HDPE fish cage each to Ybanag Fisherfolk and Farmers Association, Namnama Fisherfolk Association, Sto. Domingo Farmers and Fisherfolk Association, Progressive Organization and Halag Aqua Fisherfolk Association  in Alfonso Lista and Aguinaldo. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
