PA, NPA clash in Leon town

ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - A clash between the Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion and communist rebels occurred on July 11, 2023 at Brgy Camandag, Leon, Iloilo.

According to a report from the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, the government troops encountered more or less nine members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG)-New People’s Army (NPA) after they responded to the local populace’s reliable information on the whereabouts of the rebels in the area.

It was reported that there was no casualty on the government side, however, bloodstains were found from the encounter site and withdrawal route of the NPAs.

Recovered from the encounter site were war materials which include one AK47 rifle, seven backpacks, four smartphones, three keypad cell phones, a tablet phone, personal belongings and subversive documents.

3ID commander MGen Marion Sison said the Army in Western and Central Visayas will not stop hunting the remaining NPAs who are still hiding from the authorities.

He also recognized the unwavering support and cooperation of the local populace to the Army by giving timely and noteworthy information to the troops.

“I am calling the remaining NPAs to lay down their arms, surrender and avail the E-CLIP and other government programs and live peacefully together with your families,” said MGen Sison. (AAL//LAF/PIA6-Iloilo/ PA)
