PSA 6 conducts CAF 2022 Stakeholders Forum

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- A stakeholders forum was conducted by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Office 6 recently at Days Hotel Iloilo in its bid to gather widespread support and cooperation for its upcoming Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF).

The event was attended by representatives from various government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, local government units (LGUs), and media outlets, all of whom play a crucial role in ensuring the success of this crucial undertaking.

In her opening message, PSA Officer-in-charge Nelida C. Amolar emphasized the significance of the CAF and highlighted the scale of the undertaking.

“Data from the 2022 CAF is capable of providing a sampling frame for other statistical undertakings that can address the needs at the lowest geographical level,” she said.

Amolar noted that CAF, scheduled to commence later this year, aims to collect comprehensive and accurate data on agricultural and fisheries activities across Western Visayas that will serve as a foundation for evidence-based policy-making and strategic planning.

Coincidentally, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared the National Agriculture and Fisheries Month every September as embodied in Proclamation No. 272 he signed last June 26, 2023.

“Data that will be collected from the census will be used in national and local development planning.”

Amolar presented that the PSA would deploy a workforce of 1617 enumerators, 326 team supervisors, and 200 census area supervisors and assistant supervisors for the data collection process.

The forum also featured a presentation by Marlene Y. Alviar, Chief Statistical Specialist at PSA 6, who provided an overview of the CAF and discussed the methodology and outlined the questionnaire that will be used during the conduct of the census.

The questionnaire will cover a wide range of topics to capture relevant information on agricultural and fisheries activities, including land use, crops, livestock, aquaculture, fishing practices, and socio-economic characteristics of farmers and fisherfolk.

The stakeholders' forum provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in discussions, seek clarifications, and provide valuable insights.

Representatives from government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, local government units (LGUs), and media outlets expressed their commitment to supporting the CAF. (AAL/ED/PIA6)
