Rescue volunteers: Be prepared for any disaster

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) -- A Bacolod-based Trauma Team Rescue Volunteers (TTRV) official is urging every Filipino family to be prepared for any disaster by having a plan.

During the second annual Rescue Conference (RECON) held at the Bacolod City Government Center, July15, TTRV Anton Javellana president said members of families should have a ready 'Go Bag,' and know what to do to prevent panic and confusion.

"When you have no plan, you falter," he stressed.

He noted that disasters like flooding happen fast as waters swell quickly.

He also said people should appreciate the role of rescuers in the community where they save lives and properties.

The RECON, he said, fosters camaraderie, unity, and cooperation among rescue groups and also learn from each by exchanging ideas and protocols to improve disaster response in the country.

More than 30 rescue units from various government and private organizations in Region 6 converged at the BCGC to hold rescue demonstrations and life-saving lectures at no cost to the public.

"Let's always appreciate our first responders because they protect lives and properties so that we can have orderly communities free of dangers and troubles," he said. (AAL/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
