Information, a vital tool in fostering peace and order in the community

PAGADIAN CITY, 20 Jul (PIA) - In an effort to uphold peace and order in the city, Pagadian City Police Station led by Police Major Dexter Adrias together with Police Staff Sergeant Madonna Matas recently shared valuable information on Community Policing and Crime Prevention as part of the orientation and strengthening of the Barangay Information Officers Network (BION) in the city.

“Mabuhat ang usa ka krimen kung ang mag buhat niini adunay motibo, adunay siyay pamaagi ug aduna siyay oportunidad para buhaton ang krimen (A crime can be committed if the perpetrator has a motive, a method, and has an opportunity to commit the crime),” PMaj. Adrias said.

Adrias stressed that the police are not always there to act when the crime is committed, thus, the cooperation of the members of the community is essential as they can provide necessary information about the incident that can help in the investigation and solution of the crime.
He further emphasized that accurate and relevant information can safeguard peace and protect the welfare of the community and that crime prevention is a shared responsibility, in which collaborative efforts and strengthened community engagement is needed to prevent and eradicate crime.

Moreover, PSSg Matas mentioned strategies and measures to prevent the occurrence of crime and enhance community safety. PSSg Matas added that BIONs, as frontline sources of information in their respective communities, hold a big role to ward off crime.

City Councilor Sam Tyra Co highlighted in her message the importance of the network to heighten the awareness of each resident on the current activities in the community.

“Dako kaayo ang importansya nga ma organize nato ang BION sa matag barangay. Ang syudad adunay buhaton nga sistema sa matag barangay aron dili na mag lisud sa pag manage sa BION. Kini makatabang sa pag asenso sa atong syudad,” she said.

(It is very important to organize BIONs in every barangay, the LGU shall make a system in every barangay in order to efficiently manage the network, as this will help in the progress of the city.)

After the orientation, the BIONs took an oath to signify their dedication to the roles and responsibilities bestowed on them. Barangay officials on the other hand, also pledged their commitment and support to strengthen the network, recognizing its vital role in effective information dissemination to foster an empowered community.
