Kadiwa in Capiz nets P173K

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- The Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) caravan here held at the Capiz Provincial Park on July 17 has accumulated P173,592.88 sales in total.

Some 50 exhibitors composed of farmers, fishermen, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and retailers, among others, participated in the activity.

“I was able to buy more vegetables for P50.00,” said Mercy, pointing out the banana blossom, vegetable leaves, and some root crops that she purchased from the Kadiwa stall.

Another KNP customer, who requested anonymity, was able to buy her “much-awaited” delicacies like puso’ or sticky rice cooked in nipa sap and locally-grown mushrooms, which are rarely available in the market everyday.

The day-long marketing event also showcased a number of native chicken varieties which are readily available for breeding and consumption, seafood products, dried fish, processed food, and basic as well as prime commodities, among others.

Some of the goods and foodstuff sold were a product of government intervention programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The KNP program provides farmers, fisherfolk, and small-scale entrepreneurs with an additional avenue to sell their local produce and increase their income while removing unnecessary market layers that only lead to high market prices.

A “kakanin” vendor also thanked the concerned government agencies for organizing the KNP which gave them as exhibitors another opportunity to market their products. (AGP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
