KADIWA launching in Aklan nets P160K sales

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) -- The Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Diskwento Caravan launched in Aklan recently, generated a total sale of P160,322.00 based on records of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) here.

The KNP is a market linkage facilitation program that enables farmers to sell directly to consumers, removing market layers and aiming to make agri-fishery products accessible at affordable prices.

The marketing activity also intends to establish additional markets for smallholder farmers and farmer cooperatives.

In Aklan, the KNP was participated in by 61 exhibitors, who sold fresh fruits and vegetables, seafood/fishery products, rice, eggs, native delicacies and snacks, groceries, and handcrafted products from training beneficiaries of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

During the short program to officially open the marketing activity, Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member Jay Tejada, who represented Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores, thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for the KADIWA concept that enables farmers and fisherfolks to directly sell their products to buyers.

Tejada also mentioned that long before the KADIWA launching, the province had already been holding this kind of marketing encounter between farmers, fisherfolk, and Aklanon consumers through the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Market Day, held every 15th and end of the month led by the OPA.

This market day was most helpful during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as those who engaged in selling vegetables, fruits, cooked food and snacks, even flowering and ornamental plants, were able to have an income, Tejada said.

The KNP launching in Aklan was graced by heads and representatives of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), DSWD, DTI, Department of Agriculture (DA) and OPA-Aklan. (AGP/VGV/PIA Aklan)
