Youth ambassadors encourage Benguet folks to support Cordillera autonomy bid

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The provincial youth ambassadors called on Benguet folks to support the pursuit of Cordillera regional autonomy.
 
Mr. Benguet 2022 Arnel Labisa and Ms. Benguet Culture 2022 Kristine Dilao, were presented to the officials and employees of the provincial government of Benguet during the flag raising ceremony at the provincial capitol on Monday, July 3, 2023.
 
They are the official candidates of the province of Benguet to the search for the Mr. and Ms. Cordillera Autonomy Youth Ambassadors 2023 which is part of the 36th Cordillera Month lined up activities.

Labisa who hails from Mankayan and Dilao who is from Bakun appealed for support from the officials, employees and the Benguet folks in their journey to become the ambassadors to help in the campaign the bid for Cordillera autonomy not only in the province of Benguet but in the entire Cordillera and even outside the region.
 
Labisa said that while they, together with the candidates from the different provinces and cities in the Cordillera,  are vying for the crowns, they are also educating and inspiing  the younger generation on the pursuit of Cordillera autonomy and eventually vote to be a Cordillera Autonomous Region.
 
As part of their presentation, they also highlighted some of the advantages and salient features of Cordillera autonomy as they spoke to the hundreds of officials and employees of the Benguet provincial capitol.
 
Dilao said that being autonomous aims to strengthen the people particularly the identity as Cordillerans, provides the needed progress and development in the region, and provides policies designed that is culturally and responsive development programs for the region.

Meanwhile, Governor Melchor Diclas thanked the youth ambassadors for taking part in educating and inspiring the youth on Cordillera autonomy thru the advocacy search during the courtesy call of the candidates after their public presentation.
 
Diclas assured them of the support from the provincial government in their journey as regional youth ambassadors.
 
The candidates with their counterparts from the other local government units, were formally presented to the public during the pre-search as part of the kick off ceremony of the 36th Cordillera Month celebration in Baguio City on July 1, 2023.
 
The search for youth ambassadors is among activities of the Cordillera Month which aims to raise the awareness and educate the youth sector with the pursuit of regional autonomy in the Cordillera region.

Last  year,Shawn Michael Barila of Kalinga  and Angela May Respicio of Abra were crowned as the Mr. and Ms. Cordillera Autonomy Youth Ambassador 2022, respectively.

 
Since winning the crown, they have been actively participating and even taking the lead in the conduct of various information education and communication campaigns on Cordillera autonomy of the Regional Development Council and the local government units and other organizations. (RMC- PIA-CAR)
