QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ensures no Filipino is left behind by ramping its digital literacy and capacity-building programs to close the digital divide in the country and help citizens leverage the power of ICT in improving their lives.
To bridge the learning gaps of students brought about by the global pandemic, the DICT continued the implementation of Project CLICK, an initiative focusing on the prevention of cyber threats, promotion of cyber safety, and access to digital materials, training, and tools.
To empower civil servants with skills that will make them globally competitive and become part of the growing cybersecurity workforce in the country, the DICT partnered with Google Philippines to provide cybersecurity scholarships to qualified applicants.
The self-paced program aimed to equip government employees with the skills needed for an entry-level job in cybersecurity even without prior experience.
Also, to ensure that the future generation sustains the country's progress in the field of ICT, the ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau (ILCDB) launched "Coding for Kids" program from June 5-9, 2023 at Intramuros, Manila in partnership with the Manila Bulletin and Nullspace Robotics.
The four-day training activity introduced grade school students to the fundamentals of computer programming or "coding" in a playful and engaging way by using Lego robotics kits and Minecraft video gaming.
The activity also hoped to inspire participants to take the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program once they enter senior high school and eventually pursue degrees in the fields of science, mathematics, and ICT.
As part of the Department’s efforts to utilize every available medium to educate the youth on cyber hygiene, the ILCDB conducted a soft launching of the comic book entitled “Project Sanyata”.
The project uses relatable stories and captivating illustrations for kids and young adults to help them learn how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
This initiative is a partnership between the ILCDB and the to-be-engaged Project Sanyata's comics writer, Dr. Cheeno Marlo Sayuno.
“Your DICT will maintain to be at the forefront of delivering innovative ways to bridge the digital divide in the country. The President puts an emphasis on accelerating the digitalization efforts of the country so we can empower every Filpino to use ICT as an instrument in achieving their aspirations in life,” DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said during the Project Sanyata soft launch.
