CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Council (RDRRMC)-10, in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-10, held its "Kapihan sa PIA" in celebration of this year’s National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2023 with the theme, "BIDANG Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-Being towards Disaster Resilience."
This year’s celebration focuses on ensuring that the well-being of every Filipino is well taken care of so that they can efficiently contribute to building a disaster-resilient nation.
"This Kapihan is just one of the many activities of the council in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month. For this year, considering that the past two years COVID-19 ravaged the country and our community, our thrust is to underscore the overall health of our fellow Filipinos in Northern Mindanao," RDRRMC-10 Chairperson and Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-10 Antonio B. Sugarol said.
For this month’s celebration, the RDRRMC-10 kicked off the NDRM 2023 with a ‘Run for Resilience’ fun run, July 1, which was open to the general public and private stakeholders and garnered over 500 participants.
A Recycle, Upcycle, And Repurpose contest was also held to underscore the importance of environmental sustainability against climate change. Meanwhile, the NorMin 2nd Rescue MARCH (Mass Assembly for Rescue and Care for Humanity) Challenge, which aims to test Northern Mindanao’s Emergency Responders' preparedness in the event of an earthquake, will also be held at Malaybalay, Bukidnon, from July 25 to 26.
Through Executive Order Number 29, signed, June 28, 2017, the NDRM aims to raise awareness of the importance of economic and social resilience and risk reduction nationwide. (VPSB/PIA-10)
