Red Cross-La Union conducts training on first aid, basic life support

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-La Union Chapter conducted a training on first aid, basic life support, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with automated external defibrillator (AED) held in this city on July 18-21.

The four-day training was aimed at enhancing the skills of the rescue unit team, and health workers, among others, to save lives during disasters.

Over 25 participants from various business establishments, including healthcare providers and disaster responders joined the activity.

“We teach life-saving techniques para po makapagsalba po tayo ng buhay during emergencies o kaya may maatake sa puso. With the basic skills maaari po nating dugtungan ang kanilang mga buhay,” said Almira Abrazado, PRC-La Union Chapter coordinator.

She said that basic first aid skills are critical, and making it accessible to all is crucial and an essential humanitarian act.

The said training is in compliance with the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Department Order 235 or the Rules on the Certification of First Aiders and the Accreditation of First Aid Training Providers.

“Each company should have trained first aiders who will respond properly in times of health emergencies in their respective workplaces or even when they encounter emergencies anywhere at any time,” she stressed.

The PRC hopes to sustain its initiated program to help the province produce more disaster-prepared employees from various sectors. (JCR/AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
